General Questions

All of us use technology in our day-to-day lives. Why not take the opportunity to share your thoughts with the people who create it? Most of our studies take place in the Seattle Metropolitan Area, but not all of them — we often have studies ongoing in various cities across the United States, as well as remote studies for participants in many states. Check our Available Studies page often to see if we have anything interesting happening near you!
The length of a study varies, but you can always see how long it will take right in the header of the survey. If you're chosen to be part of a study, you will also receive an email with how long it’s expected to take, exactly where you need to go, and anything you may need to bring. No matter what the study is, you’ll always need to bring a government-issued photo ID with you, as well as your confirmation email. We can't offer the address of the labs to anyone who hasn’t been selected. If your study is remote, the email will include any software you’ll be required to use to join your session from home, rather than an address.

Getting Started

Anyone can join! Every study we do is unique and needs its own special group of participants. No matter how old you are, what kind of job you may have, or how much you know about technology, we encourage you to fill out our New Participant Signup survey — you might be exactly the type of person we need for our next study! Please note that, if you are under 13, your legal guardian will need to fill out the survey for you.
You can get started by taking the New Participant Sign Up survey! This survey is an opportunity for you to tell us about your interests, the technology you use, and some basic demographic information. We use this information to match you with studies that will be the most relevant for you. We'll periodically reach out to you with studies that may be of interest to you.

Participation

The process starts when you find a study or panel you’d like to join. First, you fill out a screener survey online so we can see if you qualify. Sometimes, we might reach out to you to ask a few more questions or go over some of the details of the study. If you're chosen, we'll contact you to pick a date and time that works for you. Then, we'll email you all the details like where to go, who's running it, and what you need to bring. During your session, the researcher in charge will explain everything and help you through it. And best of all, most studies give you a little gift or other incentive to say thank you for helping out with the study!
We’ll send you an email with information about where the study is being held and how to get there. If it's a remote study, the email will include a link to a Microsoft Teams or Skype call where you'll talk with the researcher.
We do all we can to ensure that our studies are as accessible as possible. Most of our surveys include an opportunity for you to state that you’re disabled, which is followed up by an open-response question for you to let us know about any accommodations you may need. If the survey you’re taking does not, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us at ursconnects@experis.com, and well happily see what we can do to meet your needs! Please note, however, that some accommodations may be more difficult to fulfill with specific studies, and may impact participation. This will not be true for all studies, so even if participation in one study may be affected by specific adaptive/assistive technology or features, there will always be other studies where there won’t be any impacts on participation at all!
It depends on how old your child is. If they’re younger than 13, you need to stay on-site the whole time. If they’re 13-15, you don’t need to be on-site, but we ask that you please stay close by and give the researcher your phone number in case they need to reach you. If they’re 16 or older, you don’t need to be present at all as long as you've signed all waivers beforehand.
Unfortunately, we can’t allow any children who aren’t participating to enter the labs. If you’re unable to find childcare, or your plans fell through, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us via email at ursconnects@experis.com, through our online messaging portal, or by calling the phone number provided near the end of your confirmation and reminder emails we’d be glad to help you reschedule for a later date/time!
It could be for many reasons, but we assure you, it’s never personal. Some studies are looking for very specific people, which can make it hard to find the right match. Sometimes, it’s because we don’t know enough about you from your profile. If you haven’t already, you can fill out the New Participant Signup survey and answer all the questions. This helps us understand your background and what you like. The more questions you answer, the better we can match you with new studies that might interest you!
There could be a few reasons why you haven’t been contacted about studies. Each study is looking for very specific people — sometimes, the researchers need someone who knows a lot about certain technologies, uses certain devices frequently, or has a certain number of hours in specific games.  Another reason may be that we don’t know enough about you to match you with studies you may be interested in. If you haven’t already, please complete the New Participant Signup survey here. Please answer all of the questions, as this helps us understand who you are and what you’re interested in. Also, most of our studies are only for people who are local to the Greater Seattle Area. However, we do have some studies that take place elsewhere or are entirely remote, so there may still be future opportunities for you if you’re outside of the Seattle Metro Area!
While each company may have a different required wait period, we ask that you please wait at least 90 days between studies. This allows us to get more feedback from a wider variety of people, while also ensuring that you don’t get fatigued from too many studies in a short period of time.

Waivers

Once you have received your email(s), select the "Review Document" button in the email. This will open the waiver with DocuSign. Your name and the date will be filled in automatically, and all you'll need to do after reading the waiver is fill out any needed information, providing a signature, and clicking "Finish" at the top of the screen.
We ask that our participants sign waivers for many reasons, like to help ensure all information about the technology and study you're taking part in remains confidential, as well as that you understand how you, your information, and any findings from your session will be used, and any potential risks that may involved in participating. 
We have our own waiver that we ask participants to sign, but sometimes the company we're researching for has a waiver specific to them or the study that they'd like you to sign as well. 
All of our waivers are sent out using DocuSign, a service that allows you to sign your waivers virtually. Any waivers that need to be signed will be sent to your email address from "Experis User Research Solutions via DocuSign".
Please don't wait until you're at your session to sign your waiver or bring a physical copy with you instead. We need you to sign it electronically using DocuSign at least 24 hours before your session starts. If you don't, we might have to cancel your session or reschedule it for another day.

Sometimes, the emails DocuSign sends might accidentally go into your junk or spam folder, or they might get sorted as promotional emails. If you can't find our email in any of those folders, please reach out to us. You can email us at ursconnects@experis.com, use our online messaging portal, or call the phone number that was sent to you in your confirmation email. We'll be glad to assist you and make sure you have everything you need.
Typically, yes. Different studies may have their own unique waivers that need to be signed for you to participate. Also, some waivers expire, so they need to be re-signed to be valid. Occasionally, though, you may be sent a duplicate waiver as a mistake. When this happens, you'll receive an email letting you know the mistake waiver was voided, so you can ignore it.
If a waiver has been resent to you shortly after you completed it, there may have been an error, or information may be missing. Sometimes your phone or computer might automatically fill out parts such as addresses but fail to put information in the correct places, or there may be a typo that was missed. Asking you to complete the form again is just to ensure that the waiver on file is accurate and valid, and that you can participate without issue.

Incentive

The incentive may be different for each study, but we’ll tell you what it is in the invitation as well as in the header of the survey. Usually, it’s a digital gift card you can use online. Sometimes, we might have a sweepstakes, or a physical gift card that you can use in-person or online.
The service we use for our digital gift cards has a wide variety of stores and services for you to choose from, including Visa gift cards! Feel free to browse potential gift cards here.
If the incentive is a digital gift card, please refer to the email that was sent with the Claim Code — there are links to help guide you through the process there.
After you finish your session with us, you should get your incentive within 2 weeks. If you haven’t gotten your incentive after 14 business days, please contact us via email at ursconnects@experis.com or reach out to us through the online messaging portal. We’d be glad to help ensure you get your incentive for your time.
It depends on what kind of incentive you’re supposed to get, but if it’s a digital gift card, it’ll be emailed to the email address you signed up with after your participation has been confirmed by the researcher.
Unfortunately, we’re only able to offer the form of incentive originally stated in the invitation and survey header and cannot make substitutions for other forms of incentive.

Conflicts & Rescheduling

We understand that sometimes, life doesn’t go according to plan. If you’re unable to attend at the last minute, there are a few ways you can contact us: you can email us at ursconnects@experis.com, send a message through our online portal, or call us directly via the phone number provided in your confirmation and reminder emails. Whichever you choose, we’ll be glad to help get you rescheduled for a future session or cancel your participation.

We’d be glad to help you.
